Brian Chase: The Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Brian Chase: The Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Drummer: Brian Chase

Band: Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Venue: Fox Theater, Oakland, CA on September 9, 2009

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are nothing if not theatrical. The psychedelic swirly stage backdrop and Karen O's costume changes, plus the band's incredibly powerful sound (for a 3-piece!), kept energy high throughout their set. Brian Chase plays mixed styles, traditional with his left hand and standard with his right and he is facile at responding to various keyboard, guitar and drum loops. It looks as though he plays a four-piece kit but up close you see an extra snare with a cymbal on top.

See, two snares one with a hit-hat topping.

Chase uses traditional and standard grip.

On this night I could only shoot from a spot that put Brian behind his microphone.
