By Leslie Hampton Published January 24, 2010

Drummer: Spencer Taplin

Band:The Albert Square

Venue: Homestead Lanes, Cupertino, CA on December 12th and Streetlight Records, San Jose, CA on December 16th

The Albert Square mix up their sound with punk, ska and indie pop influences. Drummer Spencer Taplin says that his recent influences come from listening to music from the '30s, 2-tone and newer ska. Spencer describes his approach: "I like to do a mix of technical stuff with just simply interesting beats, but most of the more technical things are in an effort to make it interesting." (The Albert Square release their new EP at their next show supporting The Thermals at The Blank Club Febuary 13th.)

Spencer uses a minimal setup and hot rod sticks for an acoustic set shown below.

Here, Spencer uses a full 4-piece setup and regular sticks for an electric set.
