Should I learn to read drum notation?

Even though most gigs don’t require a drummer to sight-read these days, it’s nonetheless a good idea to learn to read drum notation. For one thing, many of the top session and show drumming gigs still involve drum charts. It’s also a smart idea to be able to jot crib notes when learning new material with your band. And drum method books continue to be one of the most reliable ways to improve your technique – the better you are at reading drum notation, the quicker you will progress through increasingly advanced studies.
