Barrytron: Manic BasherBy Waldo the Squid Originally Published in DRUM! Magazine's July 2010 Issue

The name may be comical, but there’s nothing funny about the chops of Barrytron, the manic basher for Irish grindcore duo I’ll Eat Your Face. Growing up in Cork, Barrytron never went in much for music schooling, preferring instead to listen to Cryptopsy’s None So Vile on the way to and from school. “That and Pantera’s Vulgar Display Of Power, of course,” he says. “If you have these albums and you want to learn you don’t need lessons!” If the grind genre is simply punk on steroids, then Barrytron must be mainlining anabolic chops before executing a series of explosive blasts, exhilarating fills, odd-tempo breakdowns, and (gulp) tasteful cymbal accents to complement the chunky riffs and arty guitar segues of his partner, The Boy — all with a great sense of dynamics and metronomic consistency. The unsigned lads just released their new 12-track LP, Irritant, which you can download for free.
