Jimmy Carl Black
(1938 – 2008)

Jimmy Carl Black, the original drummer for Frank Zappa and the Mothers Of Invention has died at the age of 70.

Jimmy, once referred to as "the Indian of the Group" by Zappa on a recording, was in bands with Zappa before the birth of the Mothers in 1965. He held the drum chair for four years and then later returned to the band as a singer on late '70s and early '80s recordings. He embodied the humorous, freakish spirit of the early Zappa bands.
