You Can Build Independence With Libor!

Practicing is all about engaging your hearing and your mind and connecting it to physical motions. You want to embed your visual memory in your physical actions. Libor Hadrava’s lessons on independence on drummagazine.com are making waves for their logical approach to building your skills and the easy way in which he teaches. This month’s lesson digs into counting sixteenth-notes in groups of five on top a snare drum pattern. And, along the way you learn some bass drum permutations of four/sixteenth-note patterns.

Check out his earlier lessons, too.

How To Play Primus’ "Hennepin Crawler"

Original Primus drummer Jay Lane has returned to reclaim his drum throne, replacing his predecessors, Tim “Herb” Alexander and Brian “Brain” Mantia. The quirky trio has released a new album, Green Naugahyde, featuring the song “Hennepin Crawler,” which we eagerly dissected for your drumming pleasure. The first thing I noticed about this groove was the bass drum pattern. I think Lane’s doing this with just his right foot, so the song really puts his foot to the test. His embellishments change throughout this tune to keep everything unpredictable. Online Drummer’s Nate Brown presents the video lesson.
