You didn’t get the gig? You don’t feel like practicing? Cry us a river. If only Michael McInerney, currently serving an eight-year stretch in the Nevada State Department Of Corrections, had problems like yours. But thanks to privileges earned for good behavior, McInerney and fellow convict/guitarist John Davies got access to a band room stocked with instruments. After adding a guitarist and bassist, Hellcraft was formed in 2005 and the crew have been headbanging in lockdown ever since, even performing for the other inmates out in the yard. The circumstances of McInerny’s incarceration are unknown to us, but we learned he grew up in the Bronx where he lived just a few blocks from Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante. With solid material accumulated in recent months, McInerney aims to take Hellcraft beyond the confines of jail and rock the free world when he gets out in less than a year.
