New Blood: Music Major Jamie Mauck
Although Jamie Mauck originally wanted to take up French horn, his parents mercifully steered their son toward the drums, which he tackled with disciplined gusto. At Eastern Illinois University, where Mauck recently graduated with a Bachelor’s in Music Performance, he played in multiple ensembles and did a marimba piece for senior recital. Want to see fast hands? Youtube “Basement Shedding” – with its blistering ghost notes, sextuplets, and more sans flamming. On “Drumming in 5/8” he comps to music from Tommy Igoe’s Groove Essentials 2.0 after subtracting the drums. Currently, Mauck plays in Chicago progressive hardcore band Carnivores At Grace, and Champaign IL-based alt-rockers Matter Of Days. On solo project JLM, he recorded and mixed all the instruments including the metal/jazz-fusion drums. Until the big break comes, he’s working at Skins N’ Tins, one of those old-school drum shops where you can talk about Elvin’s memorable solos as Mauck repairs your bass pedal.
