Rather than making his mark from the drum chair, Shane Stanton hopes to become the next engineer extraordinaire, à la Ken Scott or Glyn Johns. And by studying with several teachers, playing in jazz ensembles at University Of Maryland, and gigging around Baltimore, he’ll be more than able to help future drummers lay tracks with that music technology degree in hand. Stanton grew up on commercial rock, but after discovering Philly Joe Jones, Troy Wright, Gavin Harrison, and Dave Elitch, his rhythmic sensibilities have gotten steadily more prog and jazz (check out his YouTube cover of “Goliath” by Karnivool below). In new instrumental band Dedleaves, Stanton’s experimental tendencies are evident on “No Time For Elevators,” “Evergreen Trail,” “Dedleaves,” and “The End Of A Lasting Impression.” Currently seeking a studio internship, Stanton’s jamming with new people, reading everything he can about engineering, and quizzing his professors.
