We just got back from the 2010 Percussive Arts Society convention in Indianapolis, where we took plenty of video. We just posted our first installment here — an up-close look at Istanbul Mehmet’s interesting Hat Trick hat-hats, which are bundled in sets of three so that you can mix and match them for a wide variety of sound options. Keep your eyes on drummagazine.com over the next few days for more footage from PASIC 2010.

The DRUM! Forum will dearly miss Dennis Lozano, who passed away on July 26 of heart failure. Dennis was one of the very first drummers to sign up as a member of DRUMmagazine.com (his screen name was Rev.D.) and was an active and enthusiastic participant in the Forum almost from the very moment it was launched. His input on this board was invaluable and he demonstrated a deep knowledge and love for drums and drumming, and a clear interest in helping other members who had questions.

A resident of Harlingen, Texas, Dennis was a busy drummer with such bands as Kalamity Jane, Gypsy Rose, Inner Sanctum, Jump Start Auto, and Less Than After. He also served as a young adults/youth pastor for more than a decade, receiving his minister’s ordination in 2008 with Valley International Christian Center in San Benito, Texas.

Dennis is survived by his loving and devoted wife Sabrina Lozano; father David M. (Janice) Lozano; sisters Trish (David) Swander, Heather (Carson) Williams, Rebecca Lozano; brothers David M. Lozano, Jr., Daniel M. Lozano and Michael Lozano; nieces and nephews Jason Swander, Savannah Swander, Miranda Lozano, Cristy Lee Rojas, Stacey Wing, Daniel M. Lozano, II, Alexa Williams, Simon Alonzo, Jr., Kayla Morales, Sammy Alonzo and Zack Chavez.

Rest in peace, Rev.D.

Be sure to keep your eyes trained on drummagazine.com next week. Beginning on Wednesday, we plan to load the website with tons of raw information — blogs, videos, photos, and more — directly from the floor of the 2011 Winter NAMM Show. During the day, the entire DRUM! staff will scour the Anaheim Convention Center for new gear, industry trends, drumming legend sightings, autograph signings, and interview opportunities, while in the evening we’ll shoot as much video as our cameras will allow at concerts, industry parties, and receptions. I have a feeling it’s going to be an amazing show this year.

Hey everybody,

Charter drummagazine.com members (i.e. you!) know that the community has been growing over the past couple months while the forums continue to become ever more active day by day. We’re so glad you decided to join us during this exciting period of growth that we would like to express our gratitude.

That’s why we have posted a free gift online that is available only to our members. Click here to download a slice of drumming history — the out-of-print mini-book, Like Father, Like Son, featuring John and Jason Bonham.

In a journalistic feat of magic, DRUM!’s editors culled John Bonham quotes from a series of interviews conducted by famed rock journalist Chris Welch, posed the same questions to Jason Bonham 20 years later, and combined their responses into a dual interview that is impossible to replicate, and full of surprises.

Thanks so much for joining the community! Now back to the woodshed!
