Ming Carbon Fiber Drum Set Drums

Check out the new drum company Ming drums, they were at the 2013 NAMM show, http://www.mingdrums.com/Vintage_Series.php

The vintage series has carbon fiber rims and carbon fiber lug casting too.

The set was just loud as hell, the sound control police showed up at the booth a lot.

But myself I like the Travel Series, it has a small footprint on the ground which is great to tight performances areas to play at, a big drum set will not work for me as I play at tight area, this Travel drum set from Ming set solves this problem, and it has a great sound out of a small set.

Most sets made of wood from different company that make a set the size of these—10” x 4” tom, 12” x 4 tom, 14” x 5” floor tom and 18” x 8” bass drum just don’t sound good enought, this carbon fiber drum set from Ming sounds great, is just projects.

I brought a drum set to be heard.

With the rack you can lift the whole set off the ground in one fast move.

Bass Pedal Repair

Hey, guys, got a problem with an older double bass pedal. It’s a Gibraltar Intruder, had it for a long time and still love the pedal’s action, however, it has developed a significant amount of play at the top of the footboard. A brand new pedal moves only vertically; this one has some horizontal movement. The lug holding the chain drive to the footboard is plenty tight, so I can’t figure out how to fix this. My local drum store has sold out to a bigger name, so I can’t get an experienced repair shop to look at it. Anybody got any ideas, either how to fix it or where to send it? Thanks in advance.

DW Upgrades Floating Rotor 9000 Pedals

Drum Workshop, Inc. has recently announced upgrades to its flagship line of 9000 bass drum pedals. Among the improvements to the new 9000 pedals are

The pedal’s new Tri-Pivot Toe Clamp includes three self-adjusting rubber-coated pads that securely anchors the pedal to a variety of bass drum counter hoop sizes.

an EZ-Adjust Infinite Cam™ that allows drummers to change from an Accelerator® to Turbo® cam, or anywhere in-between, with the twist of a drum key, and a non- skid rubber pad under the base plate designed for wood floors, carpet and other playing surfaces. DW Director of Research and Development, Rich Sikra, comments, “Like all of our DW pedals, it can be a challenge to upgrade features or functionality, because these pedals are so universally accepted within the industry. We have to be careful not to change things up too much. Drummers are so comfortable with the feel and reliability, we have to make sure the changes we make are essential improvements. I think we’ve successfully accomplished that with the new 9000s; all of the feedback we’ve received has been very positive. We’re excited to get these new pedals into drummer’s hands, or should I say, feet?”

Other standard features include: Floating Rotor Drive™, Delta® ball-bearing hinge, 101 2-way beater, light-weight aluminum base plate, single post casting (9002), precision universal joints (9002), road-worthy, all-metal construction and more.

9002 pedals come standard with a free, upgraded ballistic nylon pedal case and all DW pedals include a limited 5 year warranty.

DW Founder, Don Lombardi, comments about the latest 9000s, “We’re always focused on innovation. Along with being a drum educator, it’s my other passion. To see how far we’ve come in terms of technology and build-quality on our pedals is exciting. It’s a dream come true to see drummers use our pedals to take the art of drumming even further.”

The 9000 Series single pedal retails for $499.99 and the 9002 double version retails for $966.99.
New Look & Enhanced Sound For A Zildjian Line

The Avedis Zildjian Company is celebrating its 390th anniversary this year with a new look and enhanced sound for its legacy line of cymbals – A Zildjian. For decades, A Zildjian cymbals have been at the center of countless recordings by generations of legendary artists and bands. In 2013, Zildjian is shining a bright light on the A Zildjian line by dialing into the essence of that classic sound. The Zildjian factory has made adjustments to the curvature and weights of the line to capture the sweet spot of the A sound—resulting in enhanced crashes, rides and hats that reflect today’s musical styles. Also in 2013, Zildjian is re-introducing the 19” and 20” A Zildjian Thin Crashes and 20” A Zildjian Medium Thin Crash, and introducing a new 23” A Zildjian Sweet Ride – all in response to drummers’ requests for larger, thinner models.

The 19” and 20” A Zildjian Thin Crashes and the 20” A Zildjian Medium Thin Crash offer drummers larger sizes; a classic, full-bodied sound; and a broad sonic range and wash that speaks to today’s musical styles. The new 23” Medium Thin A Zildjian Sweet Ride, inspired by the best selling 21” model, offers clean stick definition for riding as well as a powerful crash component, making this a dynamic and versatile cymbal that can be used in virtually any musical setting.

Mapex Announces New Packaging Designs

The Mapex Drum Company has announced three updated packaging designs for their MPX hardware and snare drums, Falcon Hardware, and Black Panther snare drums. The designs clearly define each level of product offering while staying consistent with the Mapex brand. All new packaging designs will feature high-contrast black and white photography, the new Mapex green in a continuous band around the base of the box, the new Mapex logo positioned like a belt-buckle on the green band, and box labels that clearly display a product image, the product I.D. and name, UPC and EAN codes for inventory scanning, and QR codes that will deliver additional useful content to the consumer at the point of sale. All boxes include a handle on the top for easy transportation. The new packaging designs will be seen in stores starting in January of 2013.

“The new packaging is another step forward in the continuing evolution of the Mapex brand. We believe strongly in creating both a positive and complete buying experience for our retailers and consumers. It’s not enough for us to simply have a high-quality product inside the box. It’s important that our packaging engage the consumer in the retail environment using meaningful imagery and relevant information. Our new packaging will not only help the consumer in their decision-making process, but it will aid our retail partners in selling, merchandising, and inventory identification”, says KHS Director of Marketing, Michael Robinson.

Core: South Korea’s First Drum Company

In an era when major South Korean consumer goods companies such as Hyundai, Kia, Samsung, and LG – along with top Korean-based musical instrument manufacturers such as Young Chang and others – are staking their claims as world leaders in quality and innovation, internationally-respected Korean drum artist and businessman BongJo Lee has launched Core Drums, Korea’s first, full-line drum company.

And Lee hasn’t just dipped his toe into the water. After spending five years on research and development, Lee has launched Core with a grand total of eight different series of drums, including the Apex series pictured above, which incorporate a choice of clear or colored acrylic shells with laser-etched graphics and Core’s exclusive Xyzzy LED internal lighting and control module to create a limitless variety of tonal and visual effects.

And get this – the custom-shop-quality Bedazzle line is available in more than 10,000 different high-gloss lacquer finish, hardware, drum size, and kit configuration combinations. Apparently, 9,999 just wouldn’t do.

Be sure to check back in a couple weeks for a report on this exciting new drum brand filmed directly from the NAMM Show exhibit hall.

Best double pedals right now?

Planning on buying a new pair of double kicks and was wondering which ones are best (irrespective of price).
Also how much difference is there between chains and direct drives?

Been looking mainly between pearl demon drives, axis longboards, tama speed cobras, DW 9000s, and the Trick pro 1-v big foot. Are there any other major contenders?

Any advice or personal preferences with reasoning would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
