DRUMS… there is NO Doubt Danny Carey of TOOL is EASILY the best drummer in ALL of rock today.. you cannot listen to any TOOL album and not be completely AMAZED at his drumming.. Neil set the standard, Neil is the greatest drummer ever, but Danny has become the next Neil.. and i have listened to all the great drummers since i was 3 years old in 1972, it has always been my fav part of any music. i tune out the singing and the guitar and only hear the drums.. Danny Carey of TOOL is phenominal.. if u dont listen to TOOL.. go buy their CDs and listen to REAL drums like u never heard before…. he should be racking up these awards.

they ain’t interesetd in your progress, they only want your money

Beware of internet drum tuition promising unrealistic progress, in the last 2 years I have subscribed to more than one very high profile web tuition system spending several hundred dollars in the process, only to find them very sub-par and even dangerously demoralising in a sense that I thought there was something wrong with me anatomically coz I just couldn’t progress at their stated rates.

I’ve hung in there and 2 years down the track I’m now seeing small signs of improvement in my moeller technique, basic rudiments, weak hand, footwork and timing. I practise every day and if it wasn’t for the fact that the drums stir me up emotionally I would have given up after the first 12 months because I just could not make anything like the progress some of these web based bullshit artists promised, at one stage I got quite depressed about it thinking maybe I had just left it too late, I’m 50yrs old.

I love the drums and was always drawn to them as a kid and can play basic rock grooves having played as a self taught drummer in a rock band when I was 15 but to do it properly is very different. I’m a helicopter pilot/instructor by day and i can tell you it is easier to learn to fly a helicopter than it is to learn to play the drums correctly so be careful who you give your money to especially if they promise bullshit things like awesome heel-toe technique after just 2 weeks! Quote/Unquote!!

I’m now taking lessons one on one and it’s painfully hard and often mind numbingly boring but now at least I’m seeing some signs of progress so my practise has an element of excitement about again.

Musicians Friend BS

When i orderd my drum kit from Musicians friend, it just wasent right from the start. When i got my boxes, i only got one box. So i called and they said ,oh ok, we’ll send it out with next day shipping. I thought it was just a simple mistake, so i let it go. Then when i got the 2nd box, i took it all out, and i looked into the bass drum, and it was cracked! Two hge splits in the wood ply’s. I was so pissed. I called them, and they didnt even do anything about it. I asked for a replacement bassdrum, and they told me that they no longer made that kit. So i just mended the cracks myself. But then my friend who also orderd a kit from MF, also got a cracked bass drum. He returned and reorded his kit 3 times, and each time he got a cracked bassdrum.

Lesson of the story: DONT ORDER FROM MUSICIANS FRIEND!

Drummers that live in apartments >_<

Greetings fellow musicians:
Just letting out some frustration regarding this new found issue…

I have been playing the drum set since 16 and now at 24 I really took for granted the freedom and solitude of having a spot to play. After moving out of my parents I thought my troubles were over but then this I think is the biggest problem I have. Currently my drums are in a closet and if I want to play them I have to rent a time slot at the local studio for $20 an hour. I do however play in 2 bands and do the local blues jams every month but still I have reduced my playing significantly. Having a place to play for hours, chill and zone out is something I long for. SO to the young players the main reason for this rant is if you find yourself advancing through life and still find enjoyment and want to build up a career on the drums don’t quit for reasons like this. Obstacles will always be in your life so find something else to work on for example I have been focusing on rudiments and paradiddles on the pad, learning to read music and watching DVD’s. I’ve learned so much more and the doors have opened in different ways for me. This problem will work it’s self out just like everything else so I guess I worked it out after all man I feel better already! Stay strong and keep playing you’ll see in time.

Mark Pisanelli.

Hey any of you ever get a big surprise when someone video’s your gigs. Our band had the opportunity to play a corporate gig and the keyboardist wife videoed the show. My facial expressions were hilarious, I looked like I might have one to many “Y” chromosomes or maybe torrent’s. Especially on the oldies tunes we played, the funniest was Al Green’s “I’m Still In Love With You”.
Anyway I thought maybe I’d check with you guy’s before I decided if I might need to get professional help!
Thank’s

House Drums

Hi

Has anyone been in a band and show up to a gig ( or find out in advance) that you are obligated to play on a “house” kit.

I live in Pembroke, ON Canada and around here there seems to be this fad of drummers sharing a drum set..minus cymbals, stands, snare and bass pedal.

My rant is really that as convenient as this can be, it’s kind of insulting…don’t get me wrong it can be a pain in the patootie to set up and tear down a kit sometimes, but seriously we’re all drummers and we all play differently, our set ups can be unique. What if a drummer plays with a whole rack of toms and the house kit only has 1 or likes his floor tom(s) higher lower or whatever…not to mention we didn’t spend X number of $$ on our gear and countless hours tuning and setting up the perfect set up to leave it at home collecting dust. Not to mention it takes away our individuality. I think guitar players should try house guitars.

i just think that I have the right to play MY instrument like any other member of the band, I also shouldn’t be obligated to share.

I should mention that I am not including “open jam” situations

I hope I am not coming across as conceited or difficult in any way…I just find find being able to adapt to any drum set up is not a point of pride as my guitar player tries to convince me it is.
