hi, i have some crappy mics that I got at best buy for $20 or so, and ive been using one of them for an overhead mic and one for a kick mic. I am definately ready to upgrade my mics, cuz the crappy ones sound like crap. I’ve been looking at the shure sm57, and am wondering if that would work well as an overhead mic.  got any suggestions on what sounds good for cheap?

also, what I forgot to add is that my small mixer only has 4 imputs, so there can be no more than 3 mics.  I was thinking along the lines of having 2 overheads and a kick, or 1 overhead and a kick.

I use a couple of SM57’s for overheads. Work great for me.

so they work for overheads, and i don’t need a pair of condensers? because I have heard that u have to have condensers to have good overheads because of the increased sensitivity

You heard correctly. 57’s work for overheads, but condensers work better.
