My favorite drummers list is in no particular order, but here are 10 really good drummers in my opinion that have done things to separate themselves from most regular players. There are so many more to appreciate as well but here are ten great drummers. Each of these drummers has a unique style of playing of their own which sets them a part from the field of drummers who are content to stay mainstream and not venture out to discover unchartered innovations.
Dennis Chambers
Billy Cobham
Miroslav Musicant
Lenny White
Tony Williams
John Bonham
Ringo Starr
Buddy Rich
Phil Collins
Carl Palmer
A couple of good and upcoming drummers to watch for that record in my studio are Tyrone Hendrix, cousin to Jimi Hendrix. This cat keeps his pockets sewn up like a sweat shop. Next is Dennis Dove who is from New York and now lives here in Portland. See Dennis Dove videos and more on Youtube, Facebook, Drum Kings and more.
Neil Peart
Peter Criss (never gets any respect :(
Dave Lombardo
Vinnie Paul
Richard Christy
Shawn Drover
Dave Grohl

5). Stewart Copeland
6). Bill Stewart

Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan - RIP
Brann Dailor
and the list goes on but those were the first 10 great drumming influences on me that popped into my head
he was great its sad to see him go. i dont know if avenged sevenfold will be the same
well if you haven’t yet, check out there newest album Nightmare. Mike Portnoy played on it and surprisingly enough, Mike very accurately personified Jimmy’s style. It’s almost scary how close he sounds to Jimmy. the tone and levels of the drums were a little different than in records past but obviously every kit sounds different. Yes the band will never be the same but the music will always have Jimmy’s spirit in it.

i have’nt actually, but ill have to go get it. i was’nt tryin to say that avenged sevenfold will fade out but merely that he was a great player and way to young to go, 28 thats crazy. also that allot of bands have big problems when ever a band mate dies look at Zepplin, The Who, the Chilli Peppers. but about what you said about Mike Portnoy, i understand trying to keep the same style/ feel if he was finishing up the record for the band. but if it was a brand new album i think i personally would try and play more my own style rather then tyring to portray someone eles’. do you know if jimmy played on any of the songs or was it all mike?
