If you were able to choose one technique to instantly master what would it be?

Mine would be proper brush technique. I’ve always been too much of a rock/pop/blues player to spend the time needed to master it, but now — later in life — I find myself a lot more interested in playing quietly and with subtlety. Amazing how things change, huh?

I think it would be awesome to hear someone using brushes in a rock song!

I’m sure someone has at some point. Damn — you’re going to make me look it up!

I have been working, for a time longer than I want to admit, on a good press roll.  I think it gives instant credibility to a drummer’s sound.

Also, a steady train beat could score me some points.

Always wanted to use(but rarely had a chance to ) an accented press roll over double bass rolls…. until the other night when I was ‘allowed’ during a solo….  a good feeling to make it clean, smooth and fluid….but to MASTER ?...... I’d choose intricate time signatures like Bruford was able to do with ‘YES’....
