Hi,
I just got a motley kit with a Tama snare and CB Percussion drums. I play guitar but want to get back into music and learn drums. What kind of heads should I throw on to make these old beatup drums sound good. Any recommendations?

Try any of the medium weight heads from Remo, Evans, or - my personal favorite - Aquarian.  That’s a reasonable place to start.

I know I am probably very late to the reply on this one but personally I’d put Remo PS3 on the bass….and remo Pin stripes on the toms ( top anyways) I had this set up on a cheap Westbury kit i had and they sounded decent

I went with coated ambassadors on the toms and snare. So far so good. Thanks for all the advice, though.

My new drum set have a good demonstration heads, sooner I will show you some audio records with a kit. But my favorite heads is Evans, for batter toms - G2 coated, for resonant G1 clean, snare resonant - Hazy300 and batter - Power centre coated, and Bass Drum with resonant EQ1, batter (cann’t choose) GMAD or EMAD2.
Also I wanna try EC2 coated for batter tom sides…

Hey, depending on what sound you like, I prefer Evans G2 Clear or Evans EC2 SST.

I’m more of a Remo guy myself. Power stroke 3 coated batter and ambassador reso for snare, Remo PS3 clear batter and diplomat clear reso for toms. And I will swear by Aquarian Superkick II batter with an Aquarian Response reso. Best…Kick…Combo…EVER!!!

Aquarian Responce 2 on Toms, Full Force (or Super Kick) on Bass Drum and a Coated Super 2 on the snares…

Remo Emperor Coated on the batter side of all my toms and Ambassador clear on the resonant side
