You have to credit Natal for creating one of the first big buzzes in the drum and percussion hall at the 2011 NAMM Show. The company that had previously been known primarily in Europe for building hand drums made its debut at the NAMM Show with a huge booth that rivaled the size of Pearl’s or DW’s NAMM display. And while it featured a hand percussion corner, the bulk of its floor space was dedicated to four drum set lines, each defined by the type of wood used in its shell: ash, maple, bubinga, and birch. What’s more, Natal shot out of the starting gates with a full, mature line of drum set hardware. Naturally, we wanted to know how the company managed to pull off such a feat at its first NAMM showing, and discovered that Jim Mashall, the venerated name behind Marshall amps, bought the company a couple years ago and invest heavily in its development. Expect to see more from this promising brand.
