Percussionist/Drum Circle Leader Jim Greiner conducted a 25-person drumming circle to provide the groove for 15,000 runners at the starting line of the Santa Cruz County (California) Wharf To Wharf Race on Sunday, July 24, 2011 in front of the world famous Beach Boardwalk’s Giant Dipper roller coaster. Runners from all 50 states and 20 countries, including elite American and African athletes, participated in for this year’s race, the 39th year that this annual event has raised funds for area school athletic programs. Over 50 musical groups of all types line the race course to inspire the runners and over 3 million dollars have been raised over the years.
The Wharf To Wharf race (http://www.wharftowharf.com) begins at the Santa Cruz Wharf, and winds its way along the scenic Monterey Bay to the Capitola Wharf around the Yacht Harbor, through Schwann Lake Wildlife Sanctuary and across ocean bluffs and quaint seaside neighborhoods before dropping down next to the beach in picturesque and historic Capitola Village.
Jim Greiner, founder of Hands-On! Drumming® Events (http://www.handsondrum.com), performs as a percussionist, and conducts award-winning, interactive rhythm programs worldwide for corporate team building, conference ice breaking, and community, school and private groups. This is the 15th year that Jim has conducted his community drumming circle at the start of the event.
