Hi everyone, I’m often asked how to pick out a good djembe, so I wrote an article on how to choose a djembe drum for djembefola.com.  I hope you’ll find it helpful.

Cool, thanks Gerry for checking it out.  What kind of African drumming do you teach?

Cool.  Do you teach individual lessons or group lessons/workshops, or both?

BTW, djun djun is the Senegalese (or Wolof) pronunciation, whereas the Malinke or Bamana would call it dunun, dounou or dun dun.

I have been teaching since de 1980’s when I came to Houston. I did set up a Drum Ensemble, since, 1997 with my students until they went their own musical, or carreer way.  Gerry Zaragemca

Nice article.  I’m sure newbies will find it plenty helpful, and there’s even some stuff in there for some of the veterans.  Thanks.

Thanks Tom!  You might also enjoy my jembe lessons (http://www.djembefola.com/lessons).  They’re geared toward the veterans more than toward newbies, although I have more beginner-level lessons coming soon.  Let me know what you think!

All the best ~
