At one time, not that long ago, a key was a key. Things have changed. I now loyally use Evans’ Magnetic Head drum key. It doesn’t fly off of your tension rod as easily thanks to the good old laws of physics, and feels weighty and substantial in the hand. What kind of drum key do you prefer?

My favorite is the Gibraltar Tri-Key Multi Tool for application purposes. For looks, it would be my Zildjian Z key.

My favorite key would have to be my Evans magnetic. It is the first key I ever bought. I have had it for about 6 years now and everyone that has used it just loved it. It’s very comfortable to use and I like the knurled top (though when I take out my tension rods I usually just loosen them and then leave the key on and just spin out the rod from under the rim of the drum where the threads are).

For tuning I’ll go with the Evans mag.
For swapping heads, I like the Gibraltatr speed key.

My drum key is my tried and true Pearl drum key and my DW one I got with my rack which I can`t find
