Chicago Show: Detroit Custom Drum Company

If you grew weary of the race towards outlandishness that defined custom drum making during the past decade, you might enjoy the classic designs we witnessed in the Detroit Custom Drum Company booth at the 2011 Chicago Drum Show. These builders seem to love single-flanged hoops and hoop claws, traditional wraps, solid steam-bent shells, and other features that tip a hat to drum makers of the past – except, of course, for the screaming neon green acrylic kit emblazoned with the company logo. Hey, you need a little bling at a trade show!
