Dale Selch’s J.M. Smith Kit

Dale Selch's J.M. Smith Kit

Hi all. I'm mostly a smooth jazz player, but I also enjoy playing some alt-country and southern style rock.

This kit is my new custom set built by J.M. Smith Drum Company of West Richland, Washington. It is constructed of Keller Maple shells wrapped in a curly maple veneer. He used all DW lugs and hardware, and the finish is a classic DW-style "Rootbeer" fade. It's finished in eight coats nitrocellulose clear lacquer, with two hand-rubbed final coats. It's really deep, clear and beautiful.

Here is the configuration:

Bass - 18" x 22"
Tom - 8" x 12"
Floor Tom - 16"x 16
Snare - 5" x 13"

Remo Emperor Tops with black medium resonant bottoms
Powerstroke 3 Bass Batter

14" Sabian El Sabor Crash
16" Zildjian K MediumDark Crash
20" Zildjian Medium Ride
6" Zildjian thin splash
14" New Beat hats
2" Zildjian bell

The pedals are a vintage Ghost model (70's gray) and Raebuilt 60's Speed King. All the hardware is Tama and Gibraltar, and of course, Pro-Mark hickory 5A sticks.
