Alesis DM-6: Black Is Beautiful
Black, Bold, And Bad
By Andrew Lentz Published September 29, 2009
With 108 different kits to choose from, the new DM-6 electronic drum set from Alesis is a cornucopia of awesome drum sounds in a compact, elegant package.
Besides the totally revamped sound module, the DM6 Kit marks a bold new step for the company natural-feeling playing surfaces. The natural rubber surfaces of the 5-piece kit's three 8” toms, three cymbals, snare, and bass greatly reduce vibrations and provide the kind of response and rebound that’s as much of a joy to play as the sound is great.
The DM-6’s dual-zone snare — enabling rim clicks, cowbell and other effects — is just the beginning. Ten presets and five custom slots let you tailor up to 15 programmable kits. The module's USB output sends out the notes you play as MIDI signal, so you can use the DM6 as a trigger-to-MIDI interface with drum-module software such as BFD, Toontrack, or Reason.
Play late into the night with headphones or rock out when you want with the amp outputs. Connect your iPod or CD player and mix it in with the DM6's stereo input jack. For those who simply want to brush up on basic skills, the module’s metronome is just the thing to sharpen up your time. There is also a built-in sequencer with 40 preset music tracks for play along.
The DM6 Kit mounts on a heavy-duty aluminum rack. Standard 1 1/2" tubing make s it a cinch to add mountin additiobal accessoeis. Besides the included hi-hat and kbass drum pedals, kit includes a full set of mounting hardware and cables, as well as rugged kick drum and hi-hat pedals. Lick pad easily accommodates double-pedal setup.
