The gunta might be described as a cross between a frame drum and the doumbek. This unique-sounding hand-crafted drum from Maryland-based custom percussion maker The Wright Hand Drum Company is shallow and solid bottomed, with a sound hole on the side and fixed goat skin head.
The gunta adapts well to a variety of playing situations, allowing for easy internal miking. A comfortable shoulder allows for unrestricted movement. This drum produces a broad spectrum of tones that range from resounding bass to piercing highs.
Each gunta features tasteful engraved designs on terra cotta and glazed surfaces, and is signed and dated by the drum maker. Available in 10", 11.5", 12.5", and 14" sizes and a mini 7". $42 - $459.
