Yet another cool NAMM preview for gear starved drummers out there. We just heard that Paiste will reintroduce its legendary Formula 602 series, which originally launched way back in 1959. A who’s-who of drumming legends subsequently fell in love with the cymbal’s controlled tone and sublte nuances, including Joe Morello, Art Blakey, Paul Motian, Ndugu Chancler, Jon Hiseman, and Charlie Watts. However, the series was discontinued in the ’90s, as popular music grew louder, and louder, and LOUDER! But Paiste thinks drummers in 2011 are once again ready to embrace the warmth of the traditional 602 CuSn20 bronze. The renowned Swiss cymbal maker will kick things off with 16" and 18" crashes, 14" Sound Edge hi-hats, a 20" flat ride, and a 20" Medium ride that faithfully recreate the original 602 look and sound. All we can say is: Welcome back!
