Tama Starphonic Snare Drums

A Star Is Born

By Andrew Lentz Published August 3, 2009

The Starphonic line of snare drums from Tama fulfills multiple objectives: Modern technology, convenience, and vintage sound — all in one beautiful package.

Change your heads in seconds with the quick-release Freedom Lugs. These pop-off lugs combined with claw hook and grooved hoop offer quick swaps without losing tune. A “linear drive” strainer with calibrated ratchet-style adjustment knob makes precision tuning a breeze. Super-sensitive high-carbon Snappy Snares deliver exquisitely crisp response. The detachable butt plate makes changing the snares and resonant head fast and easy.

Ultra-thin shells offer exceptional projection and clear tone in any musical environment. The Satin Mappa Burl finish (pictured) features six plies of maple with one outer ply of Mappa Burl (6mm). The Matte Natural Cordia finish sports eight plies bubinga plus one outer ply of Cordia (7mm). The Seamless Aluminum shell (1.2mm) and Nickel-plated Brass shell (1.2mm) round out the offerings.
