Osain is beautiful grouping of rhythms I recently discovered on a field recording of Yorba music recorded in Brazil. Originally played on the bata drums, Osain is one of a collection of rhythms named for the deity in the Yoruba culture who is considered to be the keeper of all wild plants, both medicinal and magical. What follows are drum-set independence exercises inspired by the Osain rhythms. Learn each measure first and then try to play them in succession. Good luck!
