Jim Donovan: Return Of Zebola

This month, we’re going to dive a bit deeper into a drum-set adaptation of the Central African piece Zebola. Learn each measure one at a time, and then begin combining the measures and lines. With a rhythm like this, it sounds interesting when you create two-bar, four-bar, and eventually eight-bar phrases from the patterns below. You may find that it helps to first learn the patterns without the accents. Start off slowly. When you’re comfortable with each pattern, add the accents. Bam!
