Five Finger Death Punch has become a rising force in metal and Jeremy Spencer has more than enough slamming chops for the gig. The band’s latest CD, The Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell, features impressive metal drumming by Spencer, including the funky beat on “The Wrong side Of Heaven,” which shows how well Spencer can groove.
In this video lesson Nate Brown shows how Spencer uses lots of quiet hi-hat notes and snare buzzes for dynamic texture and motion against the VU meter needle—pinning bass drum level. Later, he plays a more aggressive part and follows the syncopated bass drum with his sloshy hi-hat.
