We’re going to work on some linear sixteenth-note patterns between both hands and both feet. These exercises will develop control among all your limbs. Once you have these patterns tightened up, you can apply them to fills, songs, or whatever you want. Exs. 1—3 start with the hands and are grouped into patterns of six strokes with the hands, six strokes with the feet, and four strokes with the hands – followed by variations on that formula. Exs. 4—6 begin with the feet and are written out as the same combinations. Exs. 7—9 begin with the hands and are made up of sixteenths with the hands and two hits with the single kick. Play each stroke at equal volume and concentrate on being smooth.
