We did a cover of Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground" on the Mother’s Milk album – seems like a long time ago! Anyway, we did a really aggressive version of it, like a fast shuffle, with the kick going boom-boom, boom-boom the whole time.
The pattern isn’t particularly challenging, but it takes a lot of stamina to make it sound solid and consistent with the bass. Let’s just say I wouldn’t want to start a show with it. Try playing this part for about five minutes straight at about 150 bpms. The hi-hat and snare patterns change slightly for interest, but the bass keeps chuggin’ on through.
