Tom Brechtlein: Dazed & Grouped

Hey folks, Brechtlein here. I was in the shed one day minding my own business when these weird licks started creeping into my playing. I was a man smitten by syncopation. Unaware of my situation, I started playing groupings of five, seven, and three. These were played by my lower appendages (legs that is. Keep it clean!). I was about to cross over into another world; a world that others in the past have never escaped. I was about to enter the exercise zone!

Just kidding folks. Here are three exercises that can be used to help your lower body coordination and balance. Ex. 1 can be used as a lick within the groove. This one is a grouping of five. Ex. 2 is a grouping of three. Ex. 3 is a grouping of seven between the snare drum and the bass drum. Now these are all played within a groove with the ride cymbal providing the time.

Remember that you might want to start playing these slowly at first. Okay? Great! Talk to you soon. And by the way, if you have any questions or just want to drop me a line, send me an e-mail at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
