How To Play Chris Adler’s “Invictus” Drum Part

“Invictus”, from Lamb Of God’s new release Resolution, starts with a unusual and surprisingly funky groove that at first listen might make you wonder if it’s in an odd meter. It’s actually in 4/4, but Adler’s creative approach makes this one feel decidedly off-kilter. The drum part later turns into a more typical thrash beat, though Adler throws in a couple of quick thirty-second-note bass drum ruffs to keep it fresh.
