How To Play “Spangled” By Smashing Pumpkins

By Nate Brown Published on November 15, 2010

Nate Brown demonstrates an excerpt from Mike Byrne's drum part on the song "Spangled" from Smashing Pumpkins' new release, Teagarden By Kaleidyscope. Don't jump to conclusions when you first hear Byrne's Ringo-ish backbeat groove, which opens the segment. The young drummer ably spices up the arrangement by inserting cool sixteenth-note fills that are almost more notable for their unusual rests rather than the actual notes he plays. To follow along with the music, you can find the transcription for this lesson in the December 2010 issue of DRUM! Magazine
