The primary focus of Pearl’s 2011 NAMM booth was the new Reference Pure kit, which stakes it claim on the resonant benefits of low-mass construction in the makeup of both shells and hardware. Pearl also introduced a finish upgrade for the Masters MCX 6-ply 100-percent maple legacy shell (the very shell Jeff Porcaro made famous) – it’s a faux camo finish that looks remarkably like the real thing (check out our extreme close-up for hard proof). We also saw some new colors in the entry-level Vision series, Birch Lacquer, and Birch Custom series. Nice stuff.
