Our old pal Jim Haler gave us a tour of three new drum kits offered by Yamaha at the 2011 NAMM Show. The company got into a retro groove with the new Club Custom kit, which features a psychedelic stripe-y painted finish and a 15”-deep bass drum that harkens back to the ’60s. And if you’re a stickler for authenticity you will want to pore over Yamaha’s reissue of the classic Recording Custom series, once again offered in its original colors and fittings. Rounding out the trio is a new configuration of the Stage Custom Birch kit in scaled down sizes, perfect for gigging drummers who want to minimize their load.
