Zildjian Gen 16 E-Cymbals NAMM 2011

The NAMM had only been open for a matter of hours before people started telling me that I absolutely, positively, unquestionably had to see a demo of Zildjian’s Gen 16 system. So I made it my first stop this morning, where I ran into my old friend Derek Zimmerman (formerly with Kaman and Guitar Center) who is now at the center of the company’s digital initiative. And to cut a long story short, Gen 16 surpassed the advance hype. Put simply – I’ve never seen anything like it; an actual alloy cymbal line that can trigger pristine samples of every imagineable cymbal and gong type, and it can still be played acoustically. Check it out for yourself. It’s astonishing.

  • Hi, guys!  No disrespect meant to the cameraguy; I’m sue he was doing his best.  But these videos are generally not very good.  Faces too close, stuff out of focus, bad sound, & on this one for instance; we never get to hear how the Gen 16 sounds through the module – the most important part of the vid left OUT.  Please, next time, send me.  I’m a drummer, a video guy, & would love to help you produce better quality videos for the drumming community to see what happens at NAMM.
    - No kidding!

  • Hi,
No offense taken. We have aimed for speed over quality in regards to most of these videos. That’s why we shot with flip cams and mobiles. It allowed us to post a lot of them during the NAMM show, rather than bringing home tape and editing.
But we also are planning some expansion of quality and     coverage at future events. Maybe you’re the guy we need to take with us.
