MCD Percussion At NAMM 2012

We had an interesting visit at MCD Percussion’s 2012 NAMM booth, where the company described its unusual approach to shell manufacture. Rather than offering all-maple or all-birch drum sets, MCD builds solid-shell kits that feature five different species of wood, to maximize the preferred application of each drum type. The kit on display incorporated canary wood, myrtle, walnut, maple, and catalpa, each on a different drum, with every shell built to a unique thickness according to its intended usage. We apologize in advance for not being able to play the drums for the video, but the NAMM noise police were lurking nearby!
