Austin Drumming Legend Doyle Bramhall Dies

We were saddened to learn about the death of Doyle Bramhall, who passed away at home in Alpine, Texas. He was 62. The cause of death is unknown.

Born in Dallas, Bramhall became a pivotal figure in the Austin music scene, where he established himself as a drummer, singer, and songwriter.

After moving from his hometown of Dallas to Austin in 1969, he formed the band Texas Storm with Stevie Ray Vaughn. As a composer Bramhall wrote the song “Dirty Pool” and co-wrote “Life By The Drop,” both recorded by Vaughn. He also played drums on Family Style, the 1990 collaboration with Stevie Ray and his brother Jimmy Vaughn.

Bramhall took his time releasing a trio of acclaimed solo albums – the Grammy nominated Bird Nest On The Ground, Fitchburg Street, and Is It News. He’s survived by his wife Barbara Logan, daughter Georgia, and his son, respected guitarist Doyle Bramhall II.
