Benefit For Ailing Blues Drummer Paul Fasulo

Benefit For Ailing Blues Drummer Paul Fasulo Next Weekend

A fixture of the Southern California blues scene, drummer Paul Fasulo is facing the toughest gig of his life – battling liver cancer.

The former drummer for such blues legends as Candye Kane, The Mighty Flyers, Janiva Magness, James Harman, JT Ross, Frank Goldwasser, Jimmy Morello, Kirk Fletcher, and Carol Fran underwent surgery on August 31 at UC Irvine. While costs incurred from the procedure will thankfully be covered by Medi-Cal insurance, Fasulo will be unable to work for months while he recuperates from surgery and receives chemotherapy. The sad fact is that blues drummers like Fasulo very often live month-to-month, gig-to-gig.

That’s why a group of friends and former bandmates organized a benefit concert on September 11 at the Gaslamp Restaurant in Long Beach, California, to raise funds for the ailing drummer. The show will feature such luminaries as James Harman, King Cotton, Kirk Fletcher, Pink Arguello, Johnny Maestro, Mike Tempo, Junior Watson, and many more. The event runs from 1:00—6:00 p.m. with a suggested donation of $20.

Anyone who can’t make it to the benefit and yet still want to donate can send a check and money order to Paul Fasulo, P.O. Box 4039, Costa Mesa, CA 92628.
