Stones Camp Quashes Watts Retirement Rumor

Charlie Watts Retirement Rumor Quashed By Stones Camp

The Rolling Stones press office doesn’t mess around. After the Australian newspaper The Herald Sun reported on Sunday that 69-year-old Charlie Watts had decided to retire from the road and would be replaced by Steve Jordan for the Stones’ upcoming world tour, a spokesperson for the band quickly shot out the following rebuttal: “Contrary to a fabricated and ill-informed report that appeared yesterday on a small music website in Australia, we would like to make it clear that drummer Charlie Watts has not left The Rolling Stones.” Hmmm. Reading back, the original report only suggested that Watts wouldn’t tour, but said nothing about him quitting the band in the studio (check out the original news item here). Still a wee bit ambiguous, isn’t it?
