Rich Redmond Speaks For Percussion Marketing in ‘16
PMC Draws On Experts From All Facets Of The Industry; 2016 IDM Celebrity Spokesperson Announced
The Percussion Marketing Council (PMC) hosted a percussion industry leaders panel at its Annual All-Member Meeting January 22, at the 2016 NAMM Show in Anaheim, California. The “Women in Percussion: the Changing Market for Percussion” panel discussed issues pertaining to how to increase the number of female percussionists and drum students. Panelists included retailers Victor Salazar (Vic’s Drum Shop), and Gary Forkum (Fork’s Drum Closet); percussion industry representatives Joe Testa (Vic Firth Corporation) and Chris Stankee (Sabian); plus professional female drummers Allison Miller (nationally-recognized artist, composer, teacher) and Cora Coleman (nationally-recognized artist who’s worked with Prince and Beyoncé).
The lively 2016 All-Member meeting included a brief overview of PMC market development plans and programs for 2016, presented by the PMC executive officers David Jewell (Yamaha Corporation of America), Stacey Montgomery-Clark (Sabian), Brad Smith (Hal Leonard), and Karl Dustman (Dustman & Associates). For the past 20 years, the trade organization has been recognized as the catalyst for the percussion industry’s expansion through market development programs and campaigns like International Drum Month (IDM), Percussion in the Schools, Drums Across America, Vans Warped Tour Free Drum Lessons, and Roots of Rhythm.
Roadie For A Day Contest
At NAMM, the PMC also announced that its 2016 IDM (May) celebrity spokesperson would be Rich Redmond, drummer with Jason Aldean. Throughout May, drummers or would-be drummers are encouraged to visit their local music retailers to enter to win the grand prize of “Drum Roadie for a Day.” The lucky winner will get to hang out backstage with Redmond for a behind the scenes look at the life of a professional touring drummer. Participating retailers will have a life-size Rich Redmond IDM pop-up in-store display with contest entry information for customers (or they may enter online at http://www.playdrums.com).
“My good friends at the Percussion Marketing Council have asked me to host the ‘Roadie for a Day’ contest to help raise awareness for International Drum Month this May. One lucky winner can get a chance to see what it’s like to be on the road with an artist like Jason Aldean. It’s going to be an amazing time!” says Redmond, who urges drummers and would-be drummers to visit their local music retailers to register to win and support drumming.
“The idea is to drive more consumers and get more sticks into the hands of kids, and adults, to play drums for the first time,” says PMC Executive Board member Dave Jewell.
