If you’re going to have a disaster while on the road, it pays dividends to open for musicians that are willing to lend a hand. That’s what happened when drummer Jared Champion’s appendix burst last Monday while he and his band, Cage The Elephant, were opening for Foo Fighters. In stepped Foo front man and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, who sat in with the band during their gig in Salt Lake City on Tuesday.
Cage The elephant guitarist Lincvoln Parrish told Spin, “I had to pinch myself. I turned around and Dave Grohl is playing the drums. It's an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
Grohl will continue to fill-in until Monday, when Champion is due to return to the road.
