Sadly, there aren’t many drummers in the US Congress. So, we thought it worthwhile to take note of the passing of former Democratic U.S. Rep Frank Mascara, from Pennsylvania’s 18th district, who served from 1994 to 2002.
Mascara was a jazz drummer in his youth. During campaigns he would sometimes sit in and play drums with the band during his campaign events. He was the son of Italian immigrants and was orphaned at the age of 16. When he became involved in politics he bragged that he “didn’t drink, didn’t gamble, and didn’t whore around." His career was untainted by scandal, and associates said he turned in the smallest expense bills of anyone in Congress. Sounds like a guy we could use in Congress right now.
And a drummer to boot.
