There appear to be no lack of drumming-related lawsuits in the news today, including a recent one filed in Palm Beach County Circuit Court by Florida resident Eric Gruber. The lawyer and drum circle aficionado argues that officials of the city and Old School Square Cultural Center in Delray Beach have deprived him and other local drummers of their constitutional right to free expression by not allowing them to gather on the publicly owned land. Drum circles were common at the site until 2006, when the drummers moved from the lawn to an outdoor stage because to stay out of the rain. Old School Square cultural officials subsequently banished them, claiming that the action had violated rules that had been established for the drum circle. The drummers attempted to return on several occasions, only to be turned away.
