Ex-Oleander Drummer Jailed For Threatening Sacramento Mayor

A former drummer of the Sacramento-based band Oleander is spending the night in jail in the California capitol’s county jail this evening. Earlier in the day Fred Nelson, 43, was arrested on a probation violation after being accused of threatening the city’s Mayor Kevin Johnson.

Nelson reportedly approached the Mayor this morning at the Citizen Hotel and asked if Johnson would step outside to talk. When the Mayor refused, Nelson allegedly whispered that Johnson would be “out of office in four hours,” prompting the Mayor to signal security guards who detained Nelson.

Nelson was denied bail and is set to appear in court Friday.
