Ex-Prince Drummer Plans Benefit With Former Bandmates

Bobby Z. plans to honor an important anniversary. The original drummer with Prince & The Revolution suffered a heart attack and was hospitalized in critical condition with three blocked arteries last January. So Z. (whose real name is Robert B. Rivkin) has planned a February 19, 2012 concert in his hometown of Minneapolis with other ex-members of The Revolution, including Wendy Melvoin, Lisa Coleman, Dr. Fink, Brown Mark, and special guest saxophonist Eric Leeds, to raise money for the American Heart Association.

Of course, the elephant in the room is: What are the chances of their former bandleader showing up? Rivkin is coy. “He’s been supportive,” the drummer told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “He didn’t say ’Yeah’ or ’Nay.’ His world tour continues.”

There’s only one way to find out. Tickets go on sale February 21. You can get more information at www.first-avenue.com.
