Ex-Smiths Drummer Goes To Jail For Charity
Mike Joyce can’t be accused of being a poor sport. The founding drummer for the influential ’80s British indie band The Smiths is one of several celebrities who volunteered to spend a night in prison in order to raise money for the British Red Cross. Fans who make a particularly generous donation will share a cell with him on December 1. Fortunately, their internment will last only a few hours.
“The event sounds like a bit of fun and it’s all for a good cause so I’m very happy to help,” the drummer told contactmusic.com. “I hope that we’ll get a good turn out and raise lots of money for the British Red Cross.”
