A mandatory life sentence has been handed down to a South Florida drum teacher who was found guilty of sexually molesting a young student. After rejecting a plea offer of 15 years in prison, Sandeep Munshi, 49, was convicted in June of six felony counts ranging from sexual battery on a child to lewd or lascivious exhibition. His crimes occurred over the course of a year, starting in April 2007, when the victim was ten years old. She accused him of masturbating in front of her and forcing her to perform oral sex during private Indian percussion lessons in Southwest Ranches, Florida. The girl kept the assaults a secret for more than a year, fearing others wouldn’t believe that a respected teacher would be capable of committing such lewd crimes.
