Fundraiser Planned For Jazz Legend Warren Smith
Some very heavy friends will come together later this month to help the Warren Smith raise the money needed to rebuild his extensive collection of drums and percussion lost during Hurricane Sandy.
The former drummer with such musical legends as Miles Davis, Gil Evans, Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Lloyd Price, Nat King Cole, and Quincy Jones lost his historic collection of drums, mallet instruments, timpani, and other exotic instruments during the hurricane’s massive flooding.
The fundraiser will feature host of free jazz luminaries – including Jason Hwang’s Edge, Ras Moshe’s Music Now!, Thurman Barker, Andrew Drury, and Smith himself – on January 20 at The Brecht Forum (451 West Street, New York, New York 10019). Tickets are available for $15 (general admission) and $10 (seniors and students).
